Code of Conduct

Triangle Taiko’s Code Of Conduct

Our Mission

Triangle Taiko is a club of The Nippon Club of the Triangle. It is a nonprofit organization, run by dedicated volunteers who enjoy learning, practicing, playing, and sharing the joy of Taiko. Triangle Taiko strives to share its culture with the greater community. Our mission is to:

  1. Enjoy Taiko
Anyone who is interested in Taiko and respects group work can join this club and play Taiko. Taiko is a team art.
  2. Promote Cultural Exchange
Promote Japanese-American cultural exchange through the art of Taiko with everyone who comes to our practices, performances, and events.
  3. Serve the Community
We take initiative to serve our community through workshops and performances throughout the Triangle and beyond. We value and work with our Special Taiko group and the City of Raleigh.

Our Core Values

In order to accomplish our mission, we believe in fostering a positive environment in order to grow as individuals and a group. We desire to work together to make a harmonious sound, music, and community. This culture can be shared only when its members express the same values, which include:

  • Respect: Being courteous and polite creates an environment of encouragement and appreciation for all members, and enables each member to grow within and outside of Taiko.
  • Tradition:  We honor the Japanese culture from which Taiko originated and desire to bring the positive aspects of Japanese culture to our community and pass it onto the next generation.
  • Learning: Aspiring to learn as individuals and as a group promotes satisfaction. We are all students of taiko and should strive to continue to learn and improve our individual and group taiko skills.
  • Community: Supporting each other bonds us as a community and enables us to create a nurturing environment where we can create one sound.

Our Expectations

In order to cultivate a positive environment, all members of Triangle Taiko have responsibilities towards each other and towards the group as a whole. As a non-profit and all-volunteer run group, please remember that the time and energy all of us provide are voluntary. Therefore, we have expectations which include:

  • Responsibility: Be responsible for each other’s practice time and the equipment and uniforms we supply.
  • Teamwork: We expect all members to help with group management and to help with the group’s needs, such as getting the drums ready for songs and cleaning up.
  • Punctuality: Be punctual and mindful of starting, break, and closing times.
  • Consistency: We expect members to attend practice regularly and to actively engage in practices. We understand that situations can arise. If you will miss a practice, please email us at nctriangletaiko@gmail.com
  • Diligence: Members are expected to learn the material that is covered in the weekly practices. This may require members to put in the extra time to train, study, and enhance their taiko skills on their own time.
  • Performance: Performers are expected to attend the weekly practices, performance rehearsal, and fully know each song they perform.

We expect our members to pay membership dues in a timely fashion.

Triangle Taiko has zero tolerance for harassment of any kind including intimidation, discrimination, bullying, the use of demeaning language, or any kind of malicious behavior toward another member.

Disciplinary Protocol for Violating the Code of Conduct

Members who do not follow the Code of Conduct in good faith can face repercussions as determined by the Steering Committee.
